When the rears wheels are turning and the driveshaft is still connected (even in neutral), the driveshaft is still turning the output shaft of the tranny. That in turn makes all the sun gears, planetary gears, and whatever else go 'round. The reason it doesn't act like it is in gear is because the torque converter is 0% locked up, I believe. Everything in the tranny still spins, and without the car on and tranny fluid being tossed around, things heat up... and then melt together. Kez
